Before You ArriveArriving in Prince George

Don’t forget to plan transportation from the airport to your accommodation. Here are some options:
Airport Shuttle: Book a shuttle by calling (250) 563-2220 or visiting the Prince George Airport Shuttle Service.
Taxi: Taxis can often be found waiting outside of the Airport, but can also be arranged by calling (250) 564-4444.
Uride: A rideshare operator, Uride can be booked through the app. Download it here.

Friendly staff in the International Office can answer any questions you may have and help to connect you with campus resources. The International Office is located in Room 1-785 or you can send an email to intl_edu@cnc.bc.ca
Peer Connections
The Peer Connections Program is a mentorship program that connects first and second-year students. Designed to help you make new friends and grow soft skills, this program will help you seamlessly connect with the CNC community and learn first-hand about the services and support offerings of the college.
CNC Clubs
CNC Student’s Union supports several student-led clubs, created by students who come together over a shared interest.
Campus Events and Recreation
CNC hosts several events to give all students the opportunity to have fun.
Move your body in the weight room, sign out equipment, or participate in drop-in classes or sports.
Preparing for Your Classes
Make sure to attend Orientation, obtain medical insurance, tour campus, and get to know CNC.
Book your flights or other form of travel. Make sure to give yourself enough time to get settled in your accommodation before Orientation.
Don’t forget to plan transportation from the airport to your accommodation.

On-Campus Housing
Located just steps away from the main building, campus housing is a great option for learners looking for affordable access to their classes. Space is limited, so apply early to secure your spot. We recommend you apply six to nine months in advance of your program.

Off-Campus Housing
The city offers a range of rental accommodations, including apartments, basement suites, condominiums, single-family homes, and townhouses. Available options can be found on several housing groups on Facebook. Please note that CNC cannot guarantee the availability or validity of off-campus housing or groups. Another option is VEDA student housing.
Driving
If you have a valid driver’s license in your country, you can use it while you are a student. You can also choose to take a BC driver’s exam to receive a Class 5 driver’s license.
Public Transit
Your CNC Student ID can be used to access transit in Prince George, and there is a bus stop located on campus. Check out available bus routes and schedules on the BC Transit website.
Taxis and Ridesharing
There are two taxi companies in Prince George: Prince George Taxi and Emerald Taxi. Additionally, Uride can be booked through the Uride mobile app.
Make sure you have a bank account in Canada for easy access to funds.
All international students are required by law to have medical insurance while studying in BC.
Prince George is a thriving community with year-round activities for people with all types of hobbies and interests. The city is well known for an outdoor lifestyle and activities.
Outdoor lifestyle:
Enjoy a number of outdoor activities available within and surrounding Prince George, including mountain biking, hiking, cross-country skiing, downhill skiing, skating, and more.
Hobbies:
Prince George caters to many with a wide range of community clubs. Participate in hobbies like pottery, painting, photography, museums, galleries, music, sports and more.
Community events:
Take part in local events such as the ColdSnap Music Festival, Cariboo Rocks the North Music Festival, Summerfest, Winterfest, local Farmer’s Markets, and more.
Year-round entertainment:
Cheer on local sports teams including the Spruce Kings (BCHL), Cougars (WHL), Kodiaks (CJFL), and UNBC Timberwolves Basketball and Soccer. Watch a play at Theatre NorthWest or the latest movie at the Famous Players Theatre.
Nightlife:
Dance the night away at a nightclub or enjoy a night out at a local restaurant, pub, and brewery. Pay special attention to opportunities for local musical artists, trivia, karaoke, and bingo nights.
Working in Canada
Depending on the status of your study permit, you may be allowed to work off-campus during your time as an international student.
Refer to your study permit for more information about your work eligibility and up-to-date information on how many hours a week you can work. More information can be found on the IRCC website.
To work in Canada or access government programs and benefits, you need a 9-digit number called a Social Insurance Number (SIN). You can apply for a SIN through Service Canada.
