Applying for Work at CNC

Frequently Asked Questions

The following questions are meant to provide job seekers with information on CNC's application process.

The online application system is located on the College of New Caledonia’s Jobs and Careers website. You will need to create a personal account in order to apply to our posted competitions. All required fields/questions must be completed upon your initial application. After you have completed each field/question once, you will not need to do so again unless you want to update the current information or insert additional required documents. Please note that applicant accounts are individual and must not be shared with others.

Please ensure that your application is current when submitting online. Unfortunately, an applicant can only submit their application once. If you do submit your application and there is an error, please contact Human Resources, and we can assist you in updating your information. Please call 250-561-5828 to make this sort of request.

For all ‘posted’ competitions, you are required to submit your application and required documents directly to CNC using our Jobs and Careers website. The only instance where this would not be the case is if a recruitment agency is being used. Directions regarding applications for those positions will still be found on our Jobs and Careers website.

Yes. In order to thoroughly assess your application, we require a resume outlining your skills, past work experience, and education.

The resume must be in either MS Word (.doc, .docx), or MS Excel (.xls, .xlsx), or MS Text (.rtf, .rtx, .txt), or image files (.tiff, .tif, .jpeg, .jpe, .jpg, .png). If your document is not in one of these formats, please convert it to a PDF before uploading it. Encrypted or password-protected documents are not supported.

Each job competition will provide a list of any additional documents that will be required or optional. Required documents are those documents that the hiring manager wants to see as part of your application. Without these required documents, you will not be able to proceed with submitting your application. Optional documents are additional documents that you would like to include to support your application but are not actually necessary.

Please see the “Documents Needed To Apply” section at the end of the posting for details on what is needed to apply.

When you certify and submit your application you will be given a confirmation code. This code will also be referenced in the automated e-mail confirming that your on-line submission was received.

If you did not receive this e-mail please check your SPAM folder, in the event that your confirmation email was filtered there. If the automated response is not in your SPAM folder, an incorrect e-mail address may have been entered, or your application has not been certified and submitted. Visit the application online through your applicant account to check either of these items.

All available jobs are posted on the College of New Caledonia Jobs and Careers website, and we encourage you to visit this site often for new job opportunities. Job seekers can filter opportunities based on when positions were posted (i.e. within the last day, last week or last month).

An RSS feed can also be set up if you use the Google Chrome browser.

At any given time, postings can include Administrative (exempt/excluded), Operational and Faculty positions. We also offer various types of work including casual, fixed term, leave replacement, seasonal, part time, or full time. This information will be clearly stated on each individual posting.

Job postings are updated as vacant positions become available and as positions are either filled and/or closed. If a competition is still posted but the ‘screening date’ has passed, it signifies the position is still vacant and we encourage all applicants to apply.

The recruitment process lasts anywhere from one week to several months, depending on the complexity of the position. Only those applicants who have been shortlisted will be contacted for interviews.

As long as a posting is up on our Jobs and Careers website the College encourages all applicants to apply. All submissions will be considered up to the advertised screening date. Any applications submitted after the screening date may be considered until the position is filled.

Our applicant pools are usually quite strong. Not all applicants who meet the minimum required qualifications will be short listed. Only short listed applicants will be contacted for interviews.

Yes. However, the College of New Caledonia will only consider applicants who are legally able to work in Canada. Applicants who are offered positions and are on a work visa will be required to provide proof of their valid work documentation.

Yes. As part of our selection process we often include testing on either computer skills and/or job-related applicable knowledge for specific positions.

Please note: If you misrepresent yourself or your qualifications, knowingly withhold information, or are deceitful or dishonest at any stage in the process, your application will be withdrawn from consideration.
