Academic Quality Assurance (AQuA) plays a central role in ensuring that post-secondary programs remain relevant, effective, and aligned with both institutional goals and industry standards. Through a comprehensive process of self-assessment, external evaluation, and continuous improvement, AQuA provides a framework for institutions to monitor and enhance the quality of their academic offerings. The goal is to support academic programs in meeting the diverse needs of students while fostering an environment of accountability and transparency. 

This process involves multiple stages, each designed to assess different aspects of a program's effectiveness. Regular program reviews, accreditation processes, and ongoing consultation with stakeholders provide essential feedback to inform integrated action planning and initiatives. These mechanisms help identify strengths and areas for growth, ensuring that programs evolve in response to changing academic, professional, and societal demands. By prioritizing community relevance, institutions can create programs that not only meet internal and industry standards but also address local and global needs, fostering meaningful connections between education, workforce development, and societal impact. Ultimately, Academic Quality Assurance fosters a culture of excellence and continuous improvement, promoting student success and institutional integrity. 

Program Review 

Program Review is a critical component of curriculum development, allowing institutions to assess the strengths, effectiveness, and alignment of their academic programs. By identifying areas for improvement and growth, it ensures that the program meets both institutional goals and the evolving needs of students and industries.

Conduct an internal, thorough evaluation to identify strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities for improvement. Faculty and staff work together to assess the program's current effectiveness, based on collaborative inquiry into program quality and effectiveness throughout the student journey.

Engage reviewers, including, but not limited to, an objective senior CNC faculty member from outside the program under review. Drawing on the Self-Study and its recommendations, the External Reviewer provides an independent perspective to support a thorough and reflective Program Review.

Develop a structured action plan based on the findings of the self-study and external review. This plan outlines specific steps for enhancing program quality, addressing gaps, and ensuring alignment with institutional goals and accreditation standards.

Accreditation

Accreditation ensures that a program meets external standards of quality and that it prepares students for professional practice. It enhances the program's credibility and recognition, both within the academic community and with potential employers. 

Institutions assess their own compliance with accreditation standards, evaluating whether their academic program meets the required criteria. The self-study includes data on student success, curriculum design, and resource allocation.

Accreditation bodies conduct an independent evaluation, reviewing the self-study report and assessing the program’s alignment with accreditation criteria. Site visits and interviews with faculty and students may also be part of the process.

Following the review, institutions create an action plan to address any identified weaknesses and ensure continued alignment with the accrediting body's standards. This proactive step helps the program maintain its accredited status.

Consultation 

Consultation involves seeking feedback from various internal and external stakeholders to inform the continuous improvement of programs. Gathering input from students, faculty, and industry experts ensures that the curriculum remains relevant, responsive, and aligned with market demands.

Use structured discussions with key stakeholders, such as students, faculty, or industry professionals, to gather feedback on the program’s strengths and areas for improvement.

Collaborate with advisory committees, typically composed of professionals from the relevant field, to ensure the program meets industry standards and prepares students for real-world challenges.

Collect feedback from students through surveys. This data helps identify strengths and weaknesses from the learner's perspective, ensuring that the curriculum aligns with their needs and enhances their success.
