With the shift to a virtual environment for school, work, meetings, and even get togethers with loved ones, the amount of time that we’re all staring at a screen has increased dramatically. Because of this, some people have started to experience screen fatigue, which can be experienced as eye strain, exhaustion, and even anxiety about appearing on camera during virtual meetings.

Finding credible resources online can be challenging. You want to be able to find accurate information from reputable sites. Here are some guidelines to help you figure out if the web site you are looking at has good subject matter for your research project as well as looking at the overall design and usability.

If you find yourself struggling to finish assignments before the deadline or getting to exams wishing you had found the time to study more you are not alone. Many students struggle with managing time for their studies, and in today’s interconnected busy world it is no wonder.

CNC has a Zoom license for College users. As a CNC student you have a basic CNC Zoom account that uses your CNC sign-in credentials to access classes or create your own meeting.

These steps are general in nature and can be adapted to any subject for which you need to find and present information.

By the end of this interactive course, you will be able to explain which actions constitute appropriate academic behaviour and which are considered academic offences. You should also be able to explain why certain actions are academic offences are considered academic offenses.

Some library databases are licensed for CNC users only. You can access these at any CNC campus computer or from home if you have a current CNC Connect computer account.

Be careful what you copy. The Canadian Copyright Act allows you to copy someone else’s work under these guidelines. You can make a single copy of a “short excerpt” from a copyright-protected work.

Taking notes of what happens in class is necessary for two main reasons. Firstly, and perhaps most obviously, we take notes to help us remember the main points of the class. We use these notes to go back to when we are reviewing or studying. Secondly, we take notes to help us learn as we listen. This works because a good note-taker is focusing on fully understanding the concepts as he or she structures them on paper.

Assignments that involve reflective writing include journals, vignettes, blog postings, and reflection essays. Much like a personal diary, reflective writing involves your personal thoughts. However, you are writing for an academic audience and need to use academic language. Your writing should demonstrate to the instructor that you have thought deeply and critically about how your thoughts have developed or changed as a result of the learning experience in question.

Textbooks are different from other forms of reading as their purpose is to inform and educate. Your instructor is expecting you to do more than just memorize facts from your textbook. You will need to understand the concepts.
