Log in to CNC’s Zoom at http://cnc-bc-ca.zoom.us/signin using your CNC credentials (CNC email and password). You do not have to create an account, simply Sign In with SSO.
You may be signed in automatically with your app or browser if you already have a work or personal Zoom account on your device. You will need to sign out before attempting to activate your CNC account for your classes.
Only CNC accounts are able to bypass the waiting room. You may not join classes automatically if you are not signed in with your CNC account.
Using the App on a desktop or mobile device
Download the Zoom client and install on your phone or tablet.
Android Apple PC Mac
The alternative is to use Zoom in a browser but the desktop client has more features.
Zoom from Moodle
When accessing a Zoom meeting through Moodle the Zoom app will launch and take you to the meeting. You will need to be signed in with the CNC Zoom to avoid being left in the waiting room.
This automatically accesses the Zoom account with CNC.
If you are not directed to a meeting, return to Moodle and click the meeting link again, once you have signed in to Zoom.
For better experiences for everyone in the call:
- choose a quiet area to join,
- use a headset for desktop and phone use
- aim to be as free from distractions as possible
- have your meeting materials at hand (books, notes etc)
- use the Raise Hand feature if you want to speak without interrupting someone else
- use the emoji reactions to encourage others (they show on your video/profile image for 10 secs)
- share your screen and annotate your ideas
Zoom controls are much like any other video meeting, but your options may differ depending on how your instructor has set up the class meeting.
Muting
When joining a meeting you will have a choice to turn on your microphone and camera. Your device may ask your permission to use these devices. Sometimes it is better to keep yourself muted if you are not active in the conversation. Zoom will display the main participants based on the amount of speaking they do.
The Zoom Display
You can adjust the way the pictures are displayed on your screen. Select between Speaker View and Gallery View, see insert and split arrow, and adjust the split ratio of a shared screen. A gif maybe?
Chat
Even though it says you can chat Privately, if Chat is saved by the meeting Host these ‘private chats are saved too. It is only private in the sense that it does not interrupt the main flow of the chat thread for everyone to read. Please do not share sensitive info in the chat unless you know it is safe to do so.
Insert ScreenBreak-Out Rooms
Instructors will occasionally send you to break out rooms. You will get an on-screen notice that this is going to occur. The main room closes and a break-out room takes a few seconds to load you into the new room, with your group and a new chat thread. you can alert the instructor by sending a message or raising your hand and instructor settings may allow you to return to the main room.
Insert how to raise handAnnotate
When working in groups it is useful to share a screen and have others mark what they are referring to or include information. The Annotate bar appears when sharing to place an arrow –
(which has your name on it), or stamps and text. This does not change the document so you must save any notes before exiting the shared screen.
Show save notes slideWatch Recordings
An instructor could share a link and password with you in an email or in Moodle. Alternatively, recordings can be published in the Zoom in Moodle app. Click on any Zoom activity link in your Moodle course and navigate to the Cloud Recording tab. Any published recordings will show here, latest to the top.

You can switch this mode during a screen share too using the More… drop down options
